There is an unspoken precept amongst creatives that true art directors know how to draw. From a well executed illustration comes a vision straight from one's imagination. A presentation for the eyes of what can be. A visual script that can open doors to new ideas. All aspiring creatives know this.

I started as an illustrator represented on both coasts and commissioned by a formidable list of consumer publications and publishers. I served as an art director for national advertising agencies while starting Nexus Design + Marketing, a full service design group in Santa Monica, California.

I’ve been active in all aspects of marketing communications from award-winning advertising and marketing including corporate identities, websites, social media promotions, print advertising, packaging, point of purchase, direct response, and collateral of all shapes and sizes. And, it all started with knowing how to draw.

When asked what it takes to become a good retailer, understand how consumers find and purchase what they're looking for.

Start by listening to what one needs and add “this is the one you want”. Because as an experienced retailer, you understand your product, customer, and what drives the sale. Pour over details that involve lots of data and how it sells through. Pay attention to what is trending and celebrate where aesthetic interest is now. Products and services require transparency to gain consumer trust. Present your products and services honestly and watch your customer base grow.

And last.. understand the human condition. How some customers enjoy excess and some live for the basics to survive.
